Making this garment was about following my intuition to crochet while being intentional with choices of color and material. This piece was inspired by the concept of desire and reclaiming femininity to align with my own definition of it. I chose the color pink as it was something that I rejected for my younger life as it was constantly associated with harmful stereotypes about women, it has now become something I am proud to wear and love. The yarn I used was A blend with elastic, when crocheted it creates a stretch textile that can be draped and curved along the body, making the garment an extension of one’s body rather than a piece on its own.
The dress features red glass beads and a crochet mesh stitch to create curves. The pieces are attached using multiple chain crochet lines along the side of the dress.
